The 2012 Bus – All Aboard!

Terence McKenna, the redoubtable Irish-American psychedelic raconteur (he is always described in some combination of those four words), independently (he says) derived the Dec. 21, 2012 date by a most remarkable mathematical application of the I Ching to his theory of rhythmic time. The theory is presented most completely in The Invisible Landscape: Mind, Hallucinogens, and the I Ching, and more succinctly (thus even more densely) in the "Temporal Resonance" chapter of The Archaic Revival (pp. 104ff).

Terence, bless his tick-tocking heart, was able to go the Mayans one better and pin the End of History down to precisely 8:00 a.m. of the appointed day.

José Arguelles, perennial New Age word shaman and beloved first son of Sedona, Az., has written extensively on the Mayan time system and its implications for impending planetary transformation, in The Mayan Factor and Earth Ascending, works no less grand, nor difficult to decipher, than McKenna's.

And, if you have a sturdy Astral stomach, here's a site out of Oz (the continent previously known as Australia), wherein it is revealed that the Quickening now underway will shorten our days from 24 hours to 12 (we're actually at 16 now; the scientists just haven't caught on), restore our DNA from two strands to the original 12, and leave us smack-dab in the Fifth Dimension — and all of it foreseen by those Marvellous Mayans.
